Personal Style Inventory
The Need for Control

Everyone has some need to be in charge. Being in charge is simply another expression for being in control or exerting dominance.

Many people feel a greater sense of power or security when they are in charge of a situation, whereas others placed in the same position of authority, may feel very uncomfortable.

Style A people are motivated to openly influence anyone with whom they come in contact. They try to excel in every undertaking. They are noted for their overall competitiveness and “I want to win” attitude.

Style B people have a need to be indirect in their approach to control. They will go out of their way, stay after quitting time, etc., to get a job completed. They show strong need for independence and would rather lead others than issue orders.
